In 2022, donor support of Bayside Housing & Services and the people we serve made all the difference as we worked together to end homelessness in Jefferson County!

HERE'S WHAT OUR DONORS HELPED US ACCOMPLISH IN 2022!

• Pat's Place opened in February, 2022 as Bayside's 3rd Transitional Supportive Housing site, housing up to 13 individuals and couples at a time.
• We continued to serve up to 12 program participants at a time in tiny shelters at Peter’s Place in Port Hadlock.
• As of the date of this letter, BHS is also providing housing, meals and trauma-informed case management support to 32 program participants at Bayside Tower – including 9 families overall!
• 3 new babies were born into safe supported homes at Bayside in 2022! You are helping to break the traumatic cycles of homelessness for a new generation.
• As an example of the population impacted by this generous funding - in February 2023, BHS was serving a total of 54 program participants. This included:
  • 13 children, age 12 and under
  • 2 Transition-Age Youth, ages 18 and 19
  • 5 other young adults, age 20-25
  • 9 seniors, age 65+
  • 5 veterans
  • Many of our program participants are also survivors of domestic violence and other traumas.

One of our biggest wins at the end of 2022 was the purchase of Hadlock Motel through a Legislative Community Projects allocation sponsored by Washington State Representative Steve Tharinger, 24th District and administered by the Washington State Housing Trust Fund! This funding allowed us to buy the motel from long-time Port Hadlock business owner, Carol Woodley. We have already begun to provide more transitional supportive housing in some of the 17 existing units at what is now called "Woodley Place." We give special thanks to a Jefferson Community Foundation Giving Circle and the Norman Archibald Foundation for seeding funds to help us begin adding kitchenettes to the units, along with other renovations to begin a conversion from transitional to permanent supportive housing at this new housing site! We're also grateful for all the support and advocacy from our Jefferson County Housing Fund Board for additional grant funds to support our Tiny Shelter Village and Woodley Place operations. And we're also thrilled to share that Bayside Housing & Services has now merged with JC MASH, a free medical advocacy clinic that has been operating in Port Townsend for almost 20 years! Our new partnership has already allowed us to open a new JC MASH clinic at Woodley Place and we look forward to growing our impact as we work together.

Your commitment to helping Bayside meet our community’s housing needs is greatly appreciated by all of us, but especially by the program participants that we serve every day. Bayside and JC MASH supporters give real people the gifts of time - to heal; to find and keep meaningful work; to connect with housing and employment support, medical advocacy, education and recreational opportunities; to build community, and to take care of their children for the future of us all!

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

• Donate online to our ongoing operations campaigns, funding our transitional housing and supportive services, meals program, and new JC MASH medical advocacy clinic; as well as ongoing housing project development.
• Keep an eye out for in-kind contribution needs, frequently listed on our website and communicated to the community on a project-by-project basis, as needed.
• Volunteer with Bayside, JC MASH and/or the Community Boat Project!
• And lift up BHS’s work in the community whenever you have the opportunity:
  • Housing for ALL is good for ALL: imagine a world where every person in our community has a safe, sustainable place to be at home; and where they also have access to support services to help find and keep homes for life! Ask yourselves what problems can be solved when each person is starting from that kind of stable foundation. "HOUSING FIRST" WORKS!!
  • Educate yourself and others about the drivers behind our current housing crisis.
  • Bayside currently spends approximately $1,550/per person per month to house and feed a client experiencing homelessness. Compare that figure to the public costs of hospitalization, mental health services, and engagement with law enforcement and judicial systems. Again - "HOUSING FIRST" WORKS!
